Your Pilot will call you the day before your flight with a weather update for the safety of your flight. Our Pilots are FAA Commercial Pilots with PERFECT Safety Records and decades of ballooning experience. Balloons only fly when the weather is good and that’s why they are the safest form of aviation. All of our balloons are inspected on a regular schedule per FAA Rules and Regulations, and are fully insured.

Your pilot picks the location and duration of the flight. We are 100% at the mercy of the wind, and it can be tricky, so these decisions are up to the pilot.

Passengers must be able to stand for an hour or a little longer. Leaning on the padded rails is okay.

Balloons are regulated by both the number of people in a basket and the total weight of the balloon plus passengers. Some weight restrictions apply.

We don’t fly pregnant women. Let’s protect that precious cargo. We are flying in the Rocky Mountain Front Range, and if winds pick up during landing, we can bump the ground and we don’t want any chance of harming an unborn and/or pregnant women.

There is no penalty if your flight is canceled by Rocky Mountain Balloon Rides due to unfavorable weather conditions. If your flight is postponed, simply call your office to reschedule your flight.

High winds and/or inclement weather prevent us from flying. Your pilot will contact you the day before your flight, around 5 PM, with the latest forecasted weather information.

Although we are fully insured, a signed waiver is
required from each of our Guests to fulfill our
insurance requirements.

Launchday

12192 Sugar Mill Rd. Longmont, CO 80501

It takes just 2 highways and about a 30-40 minute drive from Denver to our main launchsite. When you need to be at the launchsite at sunrise, having a close and easy to get to launchsite is very important. We are centrally located between Denver and Rocky Mountain National Park, in northeast Boulder County.

We fly once daily, just after sunrise, because that is when the winds are typically the lightest and is the safest time of the day to fly. Arrival times vary with sunrise and will be given to you when you make your reservation.

Due to climatic conditions along the Front Range area of the Rocky Mountains, we can safely fly only in the early morning hours. Our flying season and most beautiful months are from May through November. For instance, during the months of May through July, we meet between 5:45 AM and 6:00 AM. From August through September, we meet between 6:00 AM and 6:30 AM. The latest meeting time is in October, just before we change the clocks, between 7:00 AM and 7:30 AM. Since our launch times vary through the seasons, we ask all our guests to call ahead if the exact meeting time is needed before scheduling a reservation. Your pilot will give you the exact location and meeting time prior to your flight. When you make a reservation, the address, date, and time will be sent to you right away.

Because of Colorado’s varying temperatures, we suggest dressing in layers. Dress casually and comfortably, and wear sneakers or low-heeled shoes. For our taller guests, we also suggest a light hat or ball cap. Remember, hot air balloons typically take off in a field, fly in various wind directions, and usually land in a field, so dress accordingly. We don’t recommend wearing your best dress shoes. Most guests are surprised at how warm it is up in the air, as temperature inversions are common up to 4,000 feet above the ground during the summer and fall months. It is generally very pleasant as we are flying in the morning hours.

Hot air balloons in Colorado typically fly in the early morning to take advantage of the stable atmospheric conditions and calm winds prevalent at that time, which are crucial for safe and controlled flights, especially in mountainous regions. The cooler morning temperatures create a more efficient lift due to the greater temperature difference between the hot air inside the balloon and the cool outside air. Additionally, early morning weather is more predictable, avoiding the common afternoon thunderstorms and thermals that can create turbulence. This timing also offers spectacular views of Colorado’s landscapes, including the Rocky Mountains and valleys, enhanced by clear skies and vibrant sunrise colors.

We encourage all our Guests, if they wish, to participate in both the inflation and deflation of the Balloon. We have found it adds greatly to the fun of the entire Ballooning experience.

We typically fly from the surface up to a few thousand feet above the ground. The wind patterns of the Rocky Mountain Range vary in speed and direction. Your pilot will explain the reasons behind the flight pattern for that specific day as you enjoy the majestic morning flight, noting how the directions and speeds vary from day to day.

Don’t forget them! Bring plenty of extra film, batteries, memory sticks, etc.

Our actual flight time (time in the air) is approximately 60-75 minutes. We suggest allowing three to three and a half hours for the entire adventure. It is usually closer to three hours, but weather conditions vary, and we don’t want to have to shorten your flight. Therefore, please allow enough time before scheduling your next activity.

Upon returning to the launch site (meeting place), we offer a “Traditional Champagne Toast”. We serve Prosecco or Mimosas, and we also offer non-alcoholic sparkling juice and orange juice. Bottled water is available before, during, and after the flight—just ask, and we will provide it to you.

We have enough room in our chase vehicles to transport our crew and all our guests. Family members and friends are always welcome to come and enjoy the festivities, but they are asked to provide their own transportation.
